A Mother's Smile
57A mother looks
Upon her boy
During slumber
Clothes strewn around
And in the corner
A rotting cucumber
She wonders how
Something so wild
Can be so kind
Judged not by
His testosterone
But by his caring heart and mind
She picks up his clothes
And turns of his light
Then shuts his door
And smiles in the night

That sounds like any teenage boy. However a rotting cucumber sounds much too healthy to be found in my son's room- perhaps the remains of a bowl of ice cream or the crust of a sandwich.
